John Calver Workshop, October 6-10, 2004
Wow! What a great experience.
Sitting at the feet of the master potter! John Calver is such a great
potter - he throws well, does very interesting alterations, and has the
most wonderful set of glazes. Twelve potters spent five days with John
watching, then making efforts to copy his projects. Lots of other
people came and went from the workshop-staying for one or two days. It
was particularly nice to have so many Rockingham Community Collegestudents stop by and witness a real expert at work.
During the five day workshop participants were able to throw, alter,
add slips, bisque fire, glaze, and glaze fire under John’s watchful
eyes. We opened the kiln on Monday night and got out all kinds of
lovely surprises. It was such a privilege to be a part of this
workshop-too much learning to pack in my small brain! Many thanks to
Pat Harden for coordinating his trip, to George Hayes for providing his
room, boards, and transportation and most of all to John Calver for
freely sharing his knowledge and skills with us.
